Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 October 2026
Daybook is made by Nicolas Frugoni ("we"). This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the Daybook app and this website. The short version: your journal is yours, it lives on your device, and it only leaves it when you choose to sign in to sync.
Without an account
Daybook works fully offline with no account. Your journal is stored only on your device. We don't receive it, and we have no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs in the app.
If you sign in to back up and sync
- Account: when you sign in with Apple or Google we receive, through Google Firebase Authentication, a user ID, your name and your email address (with Apple you can hide your email).
- Journal: your entries and pages are stored in Google Cloud Firestore (Firebase), in the European Union, under your user ID, so they can sync between your devices. Security rules make sure only your account can read or write them.
- We use this data only to provide sync. We don't sell it, share it with advertisers, or read your journal.
Ask Daybook (optional AI briefings)
The assistant is off until you turn it on. If you choose "On this device", it runs with Apple Intelligence and nothing leaves your device. If you add your own API key for Anthropic (Claude) or an OpenAI-compatible server, the pages you ask about are sent from your device directly to that provider, under your own account and that provider's privacy policy. We never see those requests or your key, which is kept in your device's keychain.
Agents on your Mac (optional)
Settings ▸ Agents is off until you turn it on. When it's on, apps on your Mac that you give the key to (for example Claude Code, Codex or Cursor) can read and write your journal while Daybook is open. The connection never leaves your Mac and we never see it; what those apps do with your journal is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, including any AI provider they send it to.
Notifications
Reminders and check-ins are scheduled locally on your device. No push server is involved.
Keeping and deleting your data
Synced data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Index → your account → delete account), which erases your synced journal and your sign-in from our servers. The journal on your device stays until you delete the app. You can also ask us by email, see Delete your account.
Children
Daybook is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Processors
Google LLC (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) processes account and sync data on our behalf. Apple and Google provide sign-in.
